Description:

Our landscape architectural design services were engaged by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to create an entrance gateway with the roundabout planned for the Village of Hobart at the intersection of STH 172 and CTH GE.

With this design goal in place we focused on using bold, colorful masses of plants for enhancement of the roundabout making the central island a highly visible focal point. Plant species selection addressed year round seasonal interest, low maintenance, salt tolerance, consideration of water requirements, diversity of plant textures and maintaining adequate sight distances. This project was made possible with the Village of Hobart taking ownership and responsibility for the maintenance of the plantings with a Memorandum of Agreement with Wis DOT.

Working within a defined Community Sensitive Design budget preliminary landscape plans were developed for review to achieve consensus with the Village of Hobart. Final plans, special provisions and estimates were prepared and delivered within a tight deadline. Our solid design experience, compliance with Wis DOT procedures, communication skills, and coordination with contractors, consultants, Wis DOT and Village of Hobart is evidenced by the completion of this successful project.

Landscape construction administration services were performed under contract with SEH. Deliverables included:

  • Review of submittals
  • Layout of plants in the field
  • Oversight of the landscape contractor's operations to verify correct materials, proper methods of construction and overall compliance with landscape specifications
  • Plant surveillance and care inspections
  • Preparation and distribution of field observation reports
